Kashmir in Winter — Snow, Shikaras & Sub-Zero Magic

Oct 8, 2026 Family

Most travellers visit Kashmir in summer. Winter reveals a different world — quieter, whiter, and deeply atmospheric.

What Winter Looks Like

  • Srinagar: Dal Lake sometimes freezes enough for cricket matches on ice. Houseboats run heaters; kahwa by the bukhar (wood stove) is non-negotiable.
  • Gulmarg: Asia's highest gondola (Phase 2 reaches 3,979m). Powder skiing Dec–Mar. Non-skiers take the gondola for views and hot chocolate at the top.
  • Pahalgam & Sonmarg: Pine forests under snow, frozen streams, almost zero tourists.

Practicalities

Flights to Srinagar can delay in heavy snow — keep a buffer day. Pack layers, waterproof boots, and moisturiser (altitude + cold = dry skin). We arrange heated vehicles and winter-ready houseboats.

Sample 6N Itinerary

Srinagar 2N (houseboat) → Gulmarg 2N (ski/gondola) → Pahalgam 2N (valley walks) → Fly out. Ex-Mumbai from ₹58,000/person including flights.
